What Even is Public Relations?

I constantly get a lot of questions from people who wonder what my major is. I am a Public Relations major and Communication Studies minor at Temple University. The most common question I get asked is, "are you gonna be one of the people who sends PR packages to celebrities" and the best answer I have is "I don't know." Yes, it's possible that I will end up sending PR packages to people, but that's not an accurate description of what public relations is. PR is everything from pitching to the media, to reporting and writing articles. The best way I can describe it is this, I will be working for a company who has a bunch of clients. My team and I will work directly with the client to try and increase their sales. SO, essentially my job is both marketing and advertising without the hard to crunch numbers, and extreme creativity.

Personally, I really want to work in digital public relations. As most of you know, I am an avid social media user. I love selling myself to not only my friends and family, but to the world and people who don't know me. My goal is to help run a companies social media, and help them sell themselves too.

My dream job would be working in the beauty industry. Another big part of my life, is makeup and all things beauty. It would be incredible to one day work with clients that have everything to do with my interests. I want to work first hand with influencers and getting their feedback on products, all while getting the social media exposure and sales increases that my company deserves. I want to work on ad campaigns for clients and help them get the sales and media coverage that they deserve. I love running poles and collecting data to find out more about products that are being used and I can't wait to use it in my career.

So for everyone who keeps asking what public relations its, it's part of the back bone that is driving your sales. You many not always see or hear about us PR people, but we are always out there helping.
