June Reading Wrap Up

In the month of June, I started to creep out of my way too long book slump, and stumble right back into my reading roots. I rediscovered my love and passion for reading, and slowly but surely compiled a list of TBR books that is way too long for me to finish any time soon! With that being said, here is my June reading wrap up!

The first book I read in June, and the reason for the end of my book slump is called Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen. I read a few Sarah Dessen books at the end of middle school, and beginning of high school, and I liked them, but I never got through all of them. I picked up this book from my friends Jess' bookshelf, and was immediately captivated by it. I'm not quite sure why, because I've definitely read books that are a lot better than this one, but I'm glad I picked it up anyway! The story follows a girl named Halley and her best friend Scarlet through the end of their summer, and into a new school year. In August, Scarlet's boyfriend, Michael dies, and shortly after, she finds out that she is pregnant with his baby. Halley and Scarlet have to learn about the struggles of motherhood, all while Halley is dealing with boy troubles herself.

It was so interesting to read, and it really did keep me captivated. Halley and Scarlet's friendship was so fun to read about, and everything in the story just felt so real. I would definitely recommend this if you need something quick and easy to read, or to bring you out of a reading slump, just like me!

The next book I jumped into in June, was Again, But Better by Christine Riccio. I've talked about this book multiple times on my blog, so why not mention it once more! Christine is one of my favorite youtubers that talks about books, and I've been watching her since middle school. She has definitely been one of the reasons that I have kept reading over the years, and always has the best book recommendations, so when she released her very own book, I obviously had to get it!

Basically, it's about a girl named Shane who goes to London to study abroad during her junior year of college. Until this point, she's had a lot of trouble making friends, and decides to go out of her comfort zone and travel across the world in hope of having better luck in the friend department. She meets a few really great people, and they spend their weekends traveling across Europe together. She also meets a boy named Pilot, and she is immediately captivated by him. There's only one problem, he has a girlfriend back home. Shane has to learn how to deal with her emotions and feelings toward Pilot, and hope that it won't ruin their friendship.

There's also a really fun and adventure filled plot twist towards the end which made the book even better! This is for sure an awesome book to read for anyone going into college, or if you just need a fun coming of age contemporary book to read!

I then started to read the Dark Artifices trilogy, which is another one I've talked about a ton on my blog in the month of June. It's the most recent installment of Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter chronicles, and it didn't fail to brighten my mood, and make me fall in love with her writing once again!

Shadowhunter's are a breed of half human, half angel warriors, who fight off demons and monsters to protect the ordinary folk like you are me from harm. There are so many amazing family trees, character arcs, and bad ass female protagonists, which is why these books are my all time favorites!

The Dark Artifices in particular focuses on a girl named Emma, and her best friend Julian who live in a Shadowhunter Institute in Los Angeles. Emma's parents were killed in a war 5 years before, and 2 of Julian's siblings were taken at the same time. Emma is trying to figure out who killed her parents, and Julian is just trying to find a way to get his siblings back, after being the only parental figure of his family for quite some time. There's not much more I can say without spoiling anything, but I flew through all three of these books: Lady Midnight, Lord of Shadows, and Queen of Air and Darkness.

I HIGHLY recommend these books to anyone who loves fantasy, or if you're just looking for a fun and super intense new world to fall in love with! But be sure to read the books in the order they were published, starting with the Mortal Instruments series, to avoid spoilers! I have a list of the correct order to read all of the books in my top 10 favorite books blog post!

In total, I read 5 books in the month of June, which I think is pretty impressive considering 3 of them were over 600 pages! I am so glad that I have picked up reading again, and I can't wait to share with you all of the books I've gobbled up in July so far!

Until Next Time,

Lindsey
