Finding Your People

One of the hardest parts of moving away from home was being separated from all of the people I grew close to and knew. Of course I was ready to leave my small little town, but I was scared of starting all over and having to do the same thing that I once did in kindergarten.

I guess I kind of forgot how making friends works because I was not prepared for what college friendships are like. During my first week of school, I hung out with a group of girls on my floor and I was sure that we would all be best friends. Yeah no. One thing I now know is that college girls are NO better than petty high school girls. After about 3 weeks, the girls I was hanging out with started to bully me and not talk to me. Every time I was around they would ignore me or walk away or even just whisper stuff under their breathes. Of course, this absolutely broke my heart, because everyone had already found people to talk to and hang out with but my people had left me all alone.

That's one thing I learned really quickly about college, there is a super high possibility that you won't stay friends with the people that you meet in the first week. Another thing that I learned is that it's pretty awkward when you're not friends anymore because it's more likely than not that those people also live on the same floor as you.

I decided to push the toxic people out of my life and that's just what I did, I would much rather take the time to be alone and find friends that truly appreciate me than stay with the ones that treat me like garbage.

It wasn't long after that I found a new group of awesome girls that I know will be there for me. We all started to hang out a lot and soon after, we signed on an apartment together. I now have 5 new best friends, 4 of which live in neighboring towns to mine.

My advice to you? Don't give up. Even if you feel lost and alone, there is always going to be someone that comes along and picks you back up again. I never thought I would find such a good group of friends, but it really is amazing how good life can be.

Until Next Time,
